Temperature monitoring without Wi-Fi

Without Wi-Fi or internet on site, the reading can travel over the mobile network, provided there is signal where the device will be fitted.

Before you buy

A cold room or a basement can block the signal. The device stays outside and only the probe goes into the cold area. Only a test on site can confirm reception, which is what the paid on-site trial, quoted individually, is for.

The STE2 is not suitable here because it relies on your site's network. If that network goes down, no alerts go out.

Three routes, depending on the product

  1. LTE mobile

The ARES12 LTE device uses your SIM card like a mobile phone and sends SMS messages, phone calls and emails directly.

  2. NB-IoT

A low-data-rate mobile network designed for sensors. The reading goes straight to the platform using the supplied SIM, and a battery can last several years.

  3. LoRaWAN

A local radio link connects the battery-powered sensors to a gateway, which then sends everything over 4G. It suits sites with several measuring points.

Frequently asked questions

Does NB-IoT work everywhere?

No. Coverage depends on the country and the operator, and cold room walls or a basement can interfere with reception. Test on site before you roll it out.

Are readings lost if there is no network?

The Efento sensor stores up to 100,000 readings and the ARES12 LTE over 250,000 records, but no alert goes out while the network is unavailable.
